Stem borers can make a melon go from not yet ripe to gone by in a day. Check for them.
cut a milk carton in half long ways and rest your melon in it, it keeps moisture from the grass out, but u have to drain it after the rain. I’d also suggest flipping it every now and then so the pale side is face up.
I always put bricks under any melons I grow. Also you can use pinestraw or hay.
I was taught to have melons sitting up, as in they should be on a slight mound or hill. Appareantly the drainage issue comes into play. Possibly even have some straw in bed for providing a layer between melon and direct contact with ground.
I always laid them on fresh hay and turned them about a quarter of a turn once a day. Worked for me. (Just don’t keep turning in the same direction or you’ll sooner or later spin them right off of the vine!)
you eat it silly!
