How To Grow Spinach The Right Way

In my opinion, growing spinach is the simplest planting in my garden. However, there are certain conditions you should consider as rules. Hence, if you are just a newbie or a gardener, here is the right way to do it. There is a limited window of time, place and methods to plant your spinach in order to get the most optimal growth. Hence, keep reading. Here you have 4 tips to get the most optimal spinach growth.

1. When should you plant spinach?

Well, you can plant spinach two times of year when you can get the most of them. Thus, the perfect time would be early spring and in the fall. They get their full maturity and you will have the best quality of the leaves for eating purposes. Hot weather causes the leaves to deteriorate so the chill weather of early spring or the fall is perfect.

A full crop is better obtained by planting your seeds as soon as the ground is ready in the spring. If you want to have a consistent harvest, you should also sow more seed every ten days. That way, you will maintain regular new growth. However, make sure you do not overcrowd the plants.

2. Where should you plant the spinach?

The best place to plant your spinach would be in an area with well-drained soil. Thus, you can grow them perfectly in raised beds, directly in the ground, or in planters. Nonetheless, the location must have cool temperatures and at least 6 hours of sunlight per day.

3. How should you plant the spinach?

In the case of spinach, you should plant it in rows that are spaced 12″ apart. Thus, proceed by planting a seed every inch or so along the row. Then, cover the seeds with about 1/4″ to 1/2″ soil. As the young plants come up, assess the young plants for hardiness and thin to 4-6″ apart.

4. The optimal condition for an optimal spinach growth

Here you have the best conditions so you can have an optimal growth for your spinach.

– full sun to partial shade. This would be perfect for spinach, it only needs six hours of full sun per day for plant development.

– temperatures of 60-65 degrees Fahrenheit.

– consistent moisture. Make sure you water the spinach regularly, with shallow waterings; for this, the most perfect system would be a slow-drip irrigation.

– add some compost and a slow-release, high-nitrogen fertilizer into the soil before you plant the spinach. This will provide a good start for the spinach crop.

– a good drainage for the soil is essential, as spinach can’t tolerate too much water.

– plant fresh seedlings under a year in age.

That’s all there is to it, nothing complicated, just a few rules to consider. The spinach crops will be perfect if you follow these tips for an optimal growth.
